3 Ways to Get Fuller, Without Surgery

3 Ways to Get Fuller, Without Surgery

Strong, thick, and shiny hair is a sign of good health. Hair loss is common and may occur from a wide range of causes. But you don’t have to hide your thinning hair under a hat.

You can get fuller, thicker hair without surgery.

At Montclair Rejuvenation Center in Verona and West Caldwell, New Jersey, our skilled team of aesthetic specialists, led by Dr. Kelly Distefano, understands how hair loss affects self-esteem and self-confidence. That’s why we offer solutions. Here are three ways to get fuller, thicker hair without surgery.

1. Improve your diet

Hair loss affects people of all ages and has many causes, including nutritional deficiencies. Poor nutrition affects hair structure and growth, making your hair brittle and thin. Not getting enough protein, vitamins, and minerals like iron, zinc, or niacin may lead to hair loss.

Eating a balanced diet that includes a variety of nutrient-rich foods is good for your hair and skin. If your diet is less than perfect or you have concerns about nutrient deficiencies, talk to your doctor about whether you might benefit from a nutritional supplement.

We can also quickly administer your hair's nutrients with intravenous (IV) vitamin therapy at our vitamin drip spa. Though diet alone can’t fix all causes of hair loss, it’s a good place to start.

2. Modify your hair care routine

Your hair care routine can contribute to hair loss. Using harsh chemicals to color, perm, or relax your hair may damage hair follicles, leading to permanent hair loss. Wearing your hair in a tight bun or ponytail may cause hair breakage and loss.

Modifying your hair care routine may prevent hair loss. Use gentle shampoos to wash your hair and add a moisturizing conditioner after. Applying a detangler or leave-in conditioner also helps reduce breakage.

Adding a hair loss treatment like minoxidil can also make your hair fuller and thicker. Minoxidil is a topical agent available over-the-counter (OTC). It works by increasing hair growth on the scalp. You should see improvements in hair thickness about two to four months after starting.

Microneedling is another treatment that can stimulate hair growth without surgery. Combining microneedling with minoxidil can lead to even more dramatic results.

3. Consider Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)

PRP for hair restoration uses platelets to reactivate dormant hair follicles, improving hair thickness. Platelets are tiny blood cells with specialized proteins and growth factors that initiate healing in the body.

We make PRP for hair restoration from a sample of your own blood and inject it into the areas of the scalp where hair is thinning. We recommend monthly injections for the first three months and then maintenance injections every three to four months.

Most people see hair thickness and health improvements about three months after starting PRP for hair loss.

Don’t wait to take action. Early treatment for hair loss improves your chances of getting better results.
