The Effectiveness of Botox for Your Headaches

The Effectiveness of Botox for Your Headaches

Botox® is a popular cosmetic injection that smooths out lines and wrinkles. But Botox does more than restore a more youthful look. This injection is also an effective treatment for headaches.

At Montclair Rejuvenation Center in Verona and West Caldwell, New Jersey, our team, led by Dr. Kelly Distefano, provides Botox for migraines

Can Botox help your headaches? Here, we want to talk about the effectiveness of Botox for headaches and how it might work for you.

About Botox

Botox is a prescription injection that contains a purified neurotoxin made by the Clostridium botulinum bacteria. When injected in small amounts into specific areas, the neurotoxin in Botox temporarily stops muscle activity or the transmission of nerve signals to the brain.

For crow’s feet, frown lines, and worry lines, we inject Botox into the facial muscles to temporarily stop the facial expressions that cause these edged lines.

Of course, you may know all about Botox and wrinkles, but this injection also treats medical conditions like migraine headaches.

Botox for headaches

Headaches are a common pain condition. Though the frequency and severity of headaches varies, many people suffer from recurring headaches that disrupt their daily lives.

Migraines are a type of recurring headache that causes head pain that may last up to three days. When you have a migraine, your body releases neurotransmitters and molecules that transmit pain signals to your brain.

For migraine headaches, we inject the Botox into multiple areas around the face, head, and neck where your muscles and nerves meet. These injections interfere with the transmission of the pain signals to the brain, reducing your discomfort.

Currently, Botox is used to prevent headaches in people with chronic migraines. If you have 15 or more migraine headaches a month, then you have chronic migraines.

How effective is Botox?

Botox is an effective treatment for headaches. However, you may not get relief right away. In fact, you may need a few treatments before you start seeing improvements in your head pain.

For headaches, we recommend Botox injections every 3-4 months. After several weeks of treatment, you may notice a decrease in the frequency and severity of your headaches. Botox can reduce the frequency of chronic migraine headaches by as much as 50%.

Some people can stop Botox injections for headaches and continue to experience the pain-relieving benefits. However, many people need regular Botox injections to keep their headache pain under control.

There’s no need to suffer from headaches that disrupt your life. Botox is an effective treatment that provides long-term relief. Let us help you take control of your head pain.
